Default Mowing

Finally got my 60 inch Haban deck up in shape to mow. I've been trying to do some mowing in the breaks in the rain (floods) we've been getting so I haven't got mow much.
I'm having problems with the deck leaving strips between the blades, seems like it is little on the right side but it happens on both sides. I put new blades on the deck, the belts are all pretty new & everything is working good except for the strips its leaving. I bought the blades that the deck called for but it seems to me that the blades need to be about a half inch longer as they don't look like they meet close enough together. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Default Haban

This may just be your deck timing (blade alignment). Not real sure but you should try setting two outside blades straight across and the center straight up and down. And of course, make sure all are turning and you don't have a belt slipping.

You don't time a 60" Haban. Blades should be 21" long.

This is from the Oregon catalog
21" long 1/2" center hole 2" wide 1/4" thick
759-3411 Cub #
759-3839 Cub #
91-442 Oregon #

Probably not your problem but I bought a Haban once that the owner said it didn't cut very well, it had one blade on upside down.

They also don't like wet grass, check for buildup.

Those are the blades I have. Why does it leave strips? Speed doesn't seem to change it, I can slow down to a crawl & it will still leave the strips>

Is it my eyes or did you install those blades upside down?

The guy I bought that deck from had 1 blade on upside down. He said he didn't like the deck because it didn't cut very well. Seriously, I wonder why. Pulled the blades, sharpened them and put them back on the way they are supposed to go and it cuts like a champ.

My 60 started leaving strips the other day so I stopped mowing. Good thing I did, because 2 of the blades had worked loose. Never had that one happen before.

Are we talking thin strips like where there would be no blade overlap or just areas where all the grass does not get cut but some of it knocked down?

my haban doesn't mow good either. leaves all kinds of grass unless you barely creep along. never have figured it out. its like the blades dont spin fast enough or something. my little green sabre does twice as good a job.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
