Default Pulley on my IH QA36A snow thrower

The pulley on the back of the thrower unit that runs off of the clutch. loosened up allen screw and the pulley was rusted on the shaft. tried liquid wrench soak and heat from propane. did not budge. tried a 3 jaw puller and SNAP the pulley ridge is now broke.

what part number and where is the rout to go to replace? PS I have a NEW IH belt, so a "close" pulley from Northern Tool or a place like that makes me nervous. hope NAPA has a close substitute if someone has done this, please let me know part number
thanks

Do you mean a QA36A? And what tractor are you putting it on. It matters, as there are different pulleys available.

Post a pic of the damaged pulley. It may not be unusable.
Did you get it off?

Correct I meant the QA36A. It's going on the my 108 ( it came with the tractor from the previous owner who had it 20 years) this is also the tractor with charging issues I am looking into..

The pulley shattered when I put the jaw puller on it. it came off the shaft tho with more "coaxing" after that. shaft measures .75" bore on pulley, and the pulley outside diameter looks to be 4.5'. My cadet belt is 30 inches long for it.

can anyone help me locate a 4.5" , 3/4 bore replacement pulley for the QA36A?

To remove the 4" OEM iron cast pulley of my QA42A from the shaft I first try a mix of 50/50 Acetone/ATF oil with no success so I heat the iron cast pulley with Methylacetylene Propadiene Gas (MPS) and the puller remove the pulley with ease after that. Propane gas alone don't produce enough heat.

You need a "iron cast" replacement pulley, no aluminum cast crap! Best cheap solution is to machine one on a lathe but if you own this kind of tool you already figure this out.

I stopped at Fleetfarm last night and bought a steel "make your own pulley" setup
4.5" wheel with a center hole missing for the steel "pick you own bore" insert

welded to 2 together and basted the shaft with "never seize" before putting it on

we will see how it holds up

That will get you going but the pressed sheetmetal pulley @ TSC, is just a step above Aluminum, --not good in a hard pull.
Take the time to look for a good cast iron or solid steel pulley,(or spoked is ok) it will not cause you a problem later on with splitting apart.
I took the time to give you some good examples in prevous post.
Best of luck.

Try McMaster.com
Search for iron pulleys.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
