There is a garden tractor salvage yard in Bluffton, Indiana. I was there in August during the Portland, Indiana summer show. He had several Grasshopper Zero Turns with the WG600 Kubota engines. They were a modular design which you could remove as a complete unit, radiator to flywheel.
Look up Garden Tractor Heaven, that's the name.

I bought a 1864, it's just grown from there. The Cubs have replaced old Chevys as my hobby/passion. The only car I have left is a '67 Chevelle wagon.
Seems like a good trade off. I can put five Cubs where one car sat and there are no titles or license to fool with!

There is a garden tractor wrecking yard nearby (Garden Tractor Heaven) that has several commercial use mowers like the ones listed above. Most have high hours. Not thrilled about putting an engine that seem its better days.

There was a topic a while back about a Cub Cadet 782 with a 3 cylinder Kubota gas engine. I purchase the 782 (with the Kubota gas engine in it) with the hopes of transplanting the engine from the 782 into the 2182. Everything was a bolt in until I tried installing the fan. The fan goes to the rear of the engine. The fan hit the crankshaft pulley. The distance between center line of the crankshaft and the centerline of the water pump shaft on the 2182 is 8 1/2 inches. The distance between center line of the crankshaft and the centerline of the water pump shaft on the 2182 is 8 1/2 inches. The distance between center line of the crankshaft and the centerline of the water pump shaft on the Kubota engine in the 782 is 7 1/4 inches. Engines I check don't have the 8 1/2 inches of clearance that is needed to clear the fan.

From looking at the parts look up the 782 that has the Kubota gas engine in it was a diesel powered 782 at one time. I could use the engine mounting system from the 782....may have radiator hose routing issues. May have hood and grill issues. The battery will have to be relocated in the 2182.

Anyone have any input/knowledge on clearance issues when the radiator is in the front of the 2182?

I check with small engine warehouse. They don't have a repowered kit for a 2182.

Merk, here is the Kubota D600/D640 setup in an 82 series. Everything comes out as one piece on the 782D, 882, 1512, 1572 & 1772. I don't think that setup will work in a Cyclops machine.

Here is the setup in a 2182 or 1782. Sorry, this tractor is ugly to look at. The engine mount is completely different. The engine/radiator do not come out as one piece like the 82 series do. I have a 2182/1782 mount that I can get you some measurements and pics from if you like. IIRC Lew had one for sale a while back and so did Rich Patton. I didn't tear into this 2182 yet but here are some pics showing the mount.

I have what you posted in my shop (first picture). I own the 782 with the Kubota gas engine that was for sale in September. My main concern is will the hood and grill fit if I move the radiator to the front of the tractor?

If you are going from a 782 to a 2182 then no the hood and grill will not fit unless you put the radiator and fan back in the original mounting location on the 2182. The 792 setup is to long by 41/2 inches give or take if the radiator is mounted toward the front of the tractor. I'm doing a conversion to diesel in a 2182 myself.

Merk, can you post a pick or 2 of what you have? Is the 2182 just missing the motor or is everything gone?

Here is what I have. mocked up on the super frame. The engine is out of a 782D. The engine cradle from the 782D won't work with the 2182 frame. so I had to mock up a radiator bracket to hold it until I Tear the tractor apart and go completely through it. Right now nothing plastic wise will even think of going back on.

Where is it hitting? Radiator support? Can it be reworked?

Does your bracket look like item # on this link?

What am I missing on this one? If you have a 2182 with a bad engine a WG-600 or a D640 is a direct fit replacement. You may need to swap a couple accessories. The radiator stays between the engine and the dash tower as it came from the factory. 1st pic is a D640 in a 1782, 2nd pic is a WG600 in a 2182. Motor mounts are the same, radiator is the same, air cleaner is the same. If you put the 2 of them side by side the only external difference is one has a fuel injection pump and one has a carb and a distributor.
