Default 3 Pin Driver bushing replacement

I have a Cub 1000 and I am rebuilding the clutch and drive shaft for it. I already got the new drive shaft, new friction disc, solid engine mounts, new throwout bearing and new one piece pressure plates. I am re using the stock spring, teaser spring. I am also going to get a solid coupler.

Now my question is about the pilot hub bushing. I pulled it out and it has some side to side play in it. I want to replace it but it cost $26.00 from cub cadet. I think I could find it cheaper somewhere else as I found the company that makes it. But can it be replaced with a bearing? And if so where can I find one.

Your dealer gave you the wrong price. You can order direct from the company that makes them for that price range tho. I think there is a min order that has to be made.

I don't think a bearing would work in it's place as how the bushing ball has room to move. It aids with getting the motor mounted to the drive shaft and it allows some movement once it's installed.

The minimum order from Triangle Mfg. Co. is $30, IIRC. That'll get you about 15 of those ball bushings. It's really sad that CC marks them up over 1000%.

Whatever you put in there really still needs to account for engine/trans misalignment.

So if I can get 15 of them for $30, I think I will do that and sell them for $5 plus shipping...

The last time I ordered them I got 10 for around $20 but they nailed me $20 for shipping and handling. $40 for 10 is still cheaper then what Cub wants for them.

I know I am digging up an old thread here but does anyone have any of these they would like to sell? I am going through the clutch on my 1000 and I also have a 1450 that could use these. If I have to I'll buy the minimum from Triangle but I thought I would see fi anyone here did the same thing before I placed an order.

Bob

A 1450 is a hydro, no clutch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
