Put air pressure on the cylinders with the piston up and both valves closed. See if you can hear air leaking into the crankcase. If so, you likely have blown head gasket(s). Especially if the cooling fins are full of dirt, oil, mouse nests and grass.

If you pull a head, look for the gasket to be blown over towards the open hole to the crankcase.
