I think it's worse mowing when you're a machinist. I have a rectangular yard with few obstructions. I view it as a tool path, like milling the top of a block of metal. It should be optimized for the least amount of wasted cutting time, while maintaining straight lines and uniform radiuses. Don't even get me started on how I notice a lot of people around here mowing a square yard in a circular pattern.

Yes, I am one of those people who throw the grass into the street, but only when I mow the street side of my ditch. It's steep enough that my 1782 will slide a little sometimes and getting the outlet end of the deck wedged at the bottom of the ditch is much more of a pain than the other end.
