That is what I was planning on using for the hinges, it may have been done before in my shop (I'm a pipefitter/welder, so I use what is handy/free). I was thinking of notching the top of the bucket and putting a spring on the catch to keep it from dumping when I hit a bump. Such a simple concept that I completely overlooked while knee deep in the project. It goes well with my motto though. K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid, I should put that on the shop wall above the fab table.
