149 Hood decals
I was thinking of freshening up the paint on my Cub 149 but the side hood decals are in terrible shape so I am going to replace those also. I am having a heck of a time removing them. I have tried sanding them off and some sticker remover. Neither one seems to be working very well. Any ideas? Thanks, Mark

One-side razor blades, carefully by hand or use a small handle/holder. Spray on decal remover as the lube to get the blade under the edges. Sometimes you have to wiggle/saw the blade to get a decent bite under the decal. Heat gun can help sometimes. I would suggest staying away from WD40 or PB Blaster. While they are good decal removers, you don't want petroleum contaminants all over a surface you are about to paint.
You may gouge the paint in a few spots, just sand those out before primer. |
I second the heat gun! It works good for me.

Or a 90(angle die grinder) with a scotch bright pad works great:biggrin2:

I have personally used this product several times. Worked great first time, every time and left the paint untouched.
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=189453_0_0_ I have seen other friends use what amounts to a giant rubber eraser spinning on a die grinder. The friction of the rubber against the vinyl and then the adhesive removes all traces of the decal. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...d_i=B001DUT3Y0 Neither method is inexpensive, but they are quick and very thorough. Goof-Off works well on the decal residue but will dissolve paint also. |
Wire cup on my grinder removed the stripes on my 128 in about 3 minutes. Removed all the paint in about 30 minutes. :biggrin2:

Brake Kleen and a razor blade.

I tried the wire cup on the drill but seemed like it didn't want to cut all the way through the sticker. Next I got out my razor scraper and that worked Great!! Only took a few minutes and then some GOO GONE for the adhesive that was left. Thanks Guys!
