1440 14HP V Twin engine HOT!
Hi
My CC runs great and all. But it seems like after I mow for awhile it tends to overheat and not want to run at all. It'll sputter, then die. And then just plain will not fire up. The starter whirls over But no kick. After a few minutes, it might start up and then immediately die and stay dead for maybe 30 minutes or when it cools down. I haven't been able to pinpoint what causes this. Is this a common issue with V Twin engines? This engine is built quite a bit different than the standard B&S lawn mower OHV engines I have dealt with in the past. Thanks Joe M |
You engine is likely vapor locking. Do you have the heat shield in place behind the engine?
When the engine stalls, remove the gas cap and pressurize the fuel tank for about 30 seconds and see if the tractor will start back up right away. I have to run my Kohler Command and Vanguards with the side panel removed on the fuel pump side to prevent this. I also do not have the heat shields behind the engine installed and I believe this contributes to exhaust heat recirculating around the fuel pump. |
You may also have a bunch of crud in the cooling fins. Time to pull the engine, remove the tins and give it a good cleaning.

Thanks y'all. I'll be mowing today. Will see it goes.

Here's another example. Leaky crank seal PLUS a mouse nest.

That was pretty helpful. Looking at the shroud (grill?) there was quite a bit of grass blocking the holes. Nearly all of them. I took it off and dug it all out with a brush inside and out. I poked around the fins best I could to see if there might be a nest up in there. But it seems to not be. The exhaust in the front blows out strong. So I am guessing so far the grill was just getting blocked. I bame myself for not taking the time to check such things. Let's hope this is the problem! The rain came in suddenly so I didn't get a chance to find out. Maybe tomorrow. :Thanks:
