What got you interested in Cub Cadets?
 

I thought it would be interesting to see what got you all interested in Cub Cadets. Please share your stories.

My dad used to have a 127. He blew the motor in it right before I was born, and he needed a tractor so he went to Lowes and got the cheapest MTD Yard Machines they had:bash2: he still wanted to keep the 127 for plowing, so he bought another one for parts and put the motor from that into his. He could never get it to run right, so he stopped using it. Now that we think of it, it probably only needed points and a condenser, but he didn't know that then. He sold it to a friend who painted it red, then parted it out when he also couldn't get it to run:Huh:, and that tractor was in nice original condition. Eventhough I never really saw him use it, I always loved the looks of them, and always wanted one.
My grandpa had a 1320 which he gave to us after he had transmission problems with it. We fixed it up, and we still are using it. But it is starting to get old, so 2 years ago, I got a new John Deere D130 from Lowes. That was a mistake. I liked it at first, but after the first year, I got tired of it. Worse $2000 we every spent. I bought my 147 (best $325 I ever spent) and now I will never buy anything but a cub. I liked that so much, I also bought a 149.

My dad had Cub's when I was a kid growing up in the 80's. He would drag them home and paint them and once he used it for a while he'd sell it and do it all over again. That was back when people weren't overly concerned for their kids and I use to mow the grass when I got to be 9 or 10. He also had a few gravely model L's that I got to mow with and I'd love to have one of those also but being the overly concerned parent that society forces me to be I think I will wait till my boys get a little older before I get one. Here's a pic of me on a 100 that may or may not be my grandfather's.

Started mowing for a neighbor when I was ten in 1965 with his original that was a couple years old at the time. Dad had a 65 Bolens we mowed our yard with think it was a husky 600, 6hp well built tractor with shaft driven attachments I believe. Then in about 1969 dad purchased a 105 cub from another neighbor who purchased it new in 68 but passed away about 6 months later. My brother an I cut her grass with it and she paid us a couple bucks and I think dad supplied the gas ! One day she offered to sell it to dad if we kept her grass cut while she lived there. So for the Lew price of 500 $ back in 69 dad got the 105 with deck,snow blower,rototiller,garden plow and cultivator,great machine used it all these years till the X got it in 2006, sill running !

I am 41 and never had any cubs until 2013, when i stopped in to visit a Case-IH dealership I used to work at. They were selling a 127 with mower and snowthrower, it was all in fairly decent but rusty shape (if that makes sense), paid $500 for all of it.
At the time my driveway was three lanes wide, too much to shovel. The tractor needed a PTO clutch, mower deck needed spindles and paint. The interesting thing is it has been using the same battery, regulator, starter as when i picked it up five years ago. Ive done lots of learning and repairs on the tractor.

I joined this site shortly after i got the tractor. I have used the tractor all seasons since for mowing and snowblower, and trailer duty. I like seeing others on the site fix, restore, and use these tractors. I'm partial to narrow frames, and hydros, but possibly looking at a wide frame if the right one comes up.

I've been a diesel/heavy truck mechanic for nearly 41 years. While helping one of my wife's relatives clean up and sort out the families' farm for an estate auction, I came across a 782D Cub Cadet among the farm equipment. Liking that fact it was a diesel, I bought the tractor from my wife's cousin and the rest is history. I have had as many a 15 Cubs and now I'm back down to only 10. Cubs are like potato chips, you can't have just one!

My dad had bought an 1811 brand new, with a 44” deck and a 450 Blower when he built his house. Needless to say I grew up mowing on it, I remember even putting the blower on when I was about 12 years old. I remember I couldn’t get the pin through the undercarriage and blower the whole way. I got it almost through and used it. He was pretty upset when he came home from work and found it wasn’t properly inserted the whole way, and I had used it. Took my mother telling him I took the mower deck off l, and installed the blower except that pin to calm him down. Never knew much about the old ones until recently. So when I saw the 1812 I have now for sale I didn’t waste much time. Guess it’s dads fault as usual :biggrin2:

I found a red one cheap at a garage sale as a back up for my John Deere, but I never needed it.
The guy said it had a spark problem, he was right, the connecting rod broke the camshaft while exiting the block, so it couldn't make the points operate.:angry:
needless to say I kept using the Deere, till I built another engine for the 782.
I sure miss my old Deere, but it brought good money and never let me down.:beerchug:

My family has only had IH tractors on the farm since '41 and Cub Cadet mowers since '65.

Then my brother bought a big Grasshopper ZT couple years ago. Traitor! :BlahBlah:

I grew up on my Grandfather's farm ( double farm house ) and it was a "green" farm. He started buying JD's starting with the brass tagged round fender models. His last one was a 318 that my younger brother still has.

When I was waiting for settlement on my second house in 2003 ( first one was postage stamp size lot that was done with a push mower ), I asked one of my coworkers what size JD he would suggest to run a snow blower.

He mentioned that he had a 125 that he mechanically restored for his Dad but his Dad decided to go with a lawn service instead. He told me a price and I agreed ( looking back in was slightly high but everything was in very good shape ).

I got a 125, a 42" cast iron end mowing deck, a QA-42 , chains, a front blade and a Trac Vac system.

I think I made the right decision :beerchug:

First 1 I ever rode on and a few years later first drove/mowed with a 1250 been partial to the quietline series ever since but my grandpa had a 122 and later a 782 and unfortunatly all those machines are gone now. That why I started messing with them
