16 hp vanguard, with no sparky

I've got a cub 122 that I have shoehorned in a 16 horse vanguard out of a cub 1641. I think I've got it wired right, but i'm not getting any spark. it ran great before I pulled it out. if anyone can give me a little insight on the correct wiring minus all of the dashlights and safety switches that this tractor doesn't have it would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have the kill wire grounded some how. Vanguard needs power to the fuel shut off solenoid on the carb to run and to shut it off you need to ground the mags. Your doing a one off wiring so I have no idea what you have going on. I can e-mail you a 1641 wiring diagram if you PM me your e-mail address. You'll probably have to wait till tomorrow AM for it, I'm calling it a day.

Power to the carb solenoid, power to the starter in the start position, ground the mag to kill it, charge wire that goes to the battery.

How did you wire it?

this is what I have looking from the wire side of the switch

these are the wires I have on the engine side. what should be happening with these?

That doesn't really help......

How about a pic of the switch, and a part number, or at the very least what it came out of, if it isn't the original one out of the tractor. Some better pics of the wiring would be good. Can't see anything other than there are some wires.

its the original switch out of the 1641.

the yellow wire is hooked to the switch in its original position the two red/white wires are tied together and run up to the switch. it was weird all of the wire that was ran just to tie them together. I can read a wire schematic pretty well and have looked at the ones for a 1641 and can't figure out whats wrong. maybe i'm missing something/a wire. the yellow one goes to the mag, what should that read as far as voltage? the middle wire must go to the fuel solenoid and the right hand red wire should be the alternator, I think.

Draw a diagram of how you wired it.

this pretty much shows it. from these posts on the switch looking at it from the wire side. to the wires on the side of the enigine. it cranks right over, that's simple. but I can't get spark.

Sideways..... really?

Ok.... so quick question. Are you sure it's not getting spark? Or will it just not run? Because a magneto ign needs nothing to make spark. You ground it to kill it. So..... if it's not getting spark, try unhooking the wire that runs to the Mags. If it still won't run, your pulling the motor and seeing where you pinched the kill wire. If you are just assuming it doesn't have spark..... GO CHECK.
