Machine Shop near Minneapolis?
Hello All!
I'm new to Cubs and new to the forum. I'm fixing up an old Cub 100 and would like to rebuild the Kohler K241 engine. I was hoping someone on the forum might know of a reputable machine shop that knows their way around these engines for boring and valve work. I'm looking in the Minneapolis area but would be willing to drive a couple hrs if necessary. Thank you for your suggestions! |

Unfortunately I don't know anyone up that way to recommend. My regular automotive machinist does all my K series Kohler stuff for me.. Boring, valve work and general machine work is not that much different than regular automotive.. just smaller.. I would think if you can find an auto machine shop they could handle it for you Good luck and keep us posted.. Hopefully someone from up in your area will chime in and help out!:beerchug: |
Thanks Jay - I appreciate threcommendation. I'll have to check out a couple local auto shops and see what they say.

Welcome to the group! I'm up in Ramsey not too far from Elk River.
Two places come to mind, but not for good reasons. Bill Bune in Anoka is one place I stopped when I was doing exactly what you're doing - a K241 for a 100 - but he was very high in price. Don's Small Engine & ATV in Coon Rapids also used Bill Bune though a hefty markup on the services was incurred. I finally had Lloyd's Cylinder Heads in Rogers do the work which while being pretty good price wise the work wasn't as good as I hoped. A gentleman I ran into a long time ago told me to call around to the hardware stores that do repair on lawn mowers & snowblowers full-time to get a recommendation where they go for services. Good luck with your search. Let us know what you find. |
Thank you Mike
Mike- that's a bummer on a local machine servic option. I've called around to a few as well and it's definitely getting hard to find people that do this type of wok, at least that do it well. I appreciate the insights on the ones you've tried.
