When it's down it is about 6" above the floor. Maximum height is 32". It is a hydraulic pump which hooks up to the air line. It has different locking heights so there are different positions up to the 32" height. There are no stability issues at all. You can also put longer pieces of metal through the metal on the floor to increase stability if needed. It is made by Direct Lifts. I've had it for a while using it for my Harley. The extensions are secured by 3 1" rods 50" long (heavy wall conduit)that slide through the lift. The extension kit cost $230 so I used the aluminum walk boards I already had and used a knock cutter to put the holes in them.
The walk boards were originally one 16' piece and someone cut it in have to make ramps. I would never have done that, but since they were already cut they worked out great.
