48" mower deck blades
Has anyone found high lift blades or Gator blades for the 48" deck used on the 147? It seems the OEM ones lack the necessary force to pull up grass that is run down by the front wheels. You would think that there would be Gator blades close enough that one could grind them down to fit.

Gator blades have NO suction. How could they with only "fingers" where the lift wing would be.
Cub cadet blades do have suction. How old are the OEM blades you have??? Is the engine running full speed? |
And do the deck baffles still exist and whole?
|
The blades are a few years old, but have plenty of life. I replaced the baffles a few years back and clean my deck after every mowing. Engine speed is set at 3600 rpm.

That's as good as you are going to get then. No better blade than the OEM ones.
Couple years is old for what I mow. The wing on the blade does wear down. |
Once the wing tip wears to a knife edge or the cutting edge is back to where the wing starts its time for new.
Thanks for your input. |

Belt tensioner is free and drive belt tension is set to specs on space between the spring coils.

I think your hoping this thing will perform like the higher speed decks made 30 years later. It won't. I've mowed with the old triangle decks. They do a fantastic job. Either you are cutting with the grass too damp, too tall, or the blades are wore out. But I assure you, you won't get a better blade than an OEM. |
I've heard it said that they cut better when they are not upside down. Can anyone verify that??
