149 slow reverse speed?
 

She's very slow moving in reverse upon start up, seems to get better as the trans gets warm...Any ideas as to what might cause this? Thanks chris

Did this happen over a peroid of time, all at once, or is the tractor new to you?

Is the oil level ok?
When is the last time the filter was change?

I had a problem like that with my 149 a few years ago. The cam bracket adjustment needed fine tune. Info can be found on page 2-57 and page 2-58 of your Chassis Service Manual for the 1x8/9 and the Quietline Series.
You can find a service manual in our Techincal Library if you don't have one.

the tractor is fairly new to me, i did completely change the trans fluid and filter probably 20 hrs of use on the new stuff.

Yup, do what Merk says and you should be good to go... If not, write back for further instructions.

If the above advice doesn't work, there is a chance it could be a hydrostatic release valve issue. There are 2 valves, one for forward, other for reverse. The 149 originally came with manual release valves, that are actuated by the lever on the tunnel cover. Often the plunger on the top of these valves corrode up and stick.

For myself, I go out of my way to never "release" older valves, in fear they won't close completely.

If you verify all else is good as others suggested, you could swap these valves (preferably without disturbing the release plunger) and see if the problem becomes slow in forward, fast in reverse. If that's the case, then you know it's a valve issue.

BTW, be sure to thoroughly clean this area before removing the valves as any dirt which enters the unit in this area will do major damage!
