Cheap Cub 149 with no engine - repower?
Just wondering.... I might have a chance to pick up an intact 149 with no engine really really cheap. Other than obvious wiring and mounting modifications, and probably drive shaft mods, and custom gas tank, I have a Kohler CH18 sitting idle. Has anyone re powered one of these with a Kohler Command? I tried getting a vanguard into my Jacobsen once and while it mounted and worked I had issues with getting a gas tank under the hood and matching up with the hole. That hold bolts down so it's not feasible to put a gas tank anywhere else under that hood because I would have to unbolt the hood to get to it. :bash2: The 149 doesn't have a hole for a gas cap and a flip up hood so I think there might be a little more freedom to customize under there. I'm just wondering if this has been done. I've seen some threads talking about possibilities but none actually done.

I have a 1641 frame out back... maybe the 149 dash tower, hood, etc will fit the 1641 frame with some customizations, and be an easier conversion than modding the 149 frame? Then I would still have a rear gas tank and that would take care of that issue as well :bigthink:

If you decide to try and cobble together a Command engine, a 1641 frame and a 149 carcass please play Johnny Cash's song.."I Got It One Piece At A Time". LOL! Personally, I would search for a 782 with a junk KT and repower it with the CH 18. It may be less work and aggravation. :beer2:

Lol! One piece at a time and it didn't cost me a dime. For some reason I'm attracted to projects that can't be done or are harder than most people would attempt. I think this one is a bit out of reach though, plus I have to drive two hours each way to get the tractor Thanks for the advice.
