Analog Tachometer in an 82 series cub

4 Attachment(s)
I wanted to pass along my method of adding an analog tachometer to my 682. There are some Wheel Horse posts on connecting a tachometer to the alternator so I thought I would try it and it worked!

I purchased an Apex Tachometer from ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electronic-C...72.m2749.l2649

Dip switches get set for alternator, 8 pulses / revolution.

I attached the signal wire to the right side of the tractor voltage regulator + lead. Power came from the hour meter power and grounded to the steering frame. Checked motor RPM with hand held tach and I am within a few rpm. Fit right into the hole for the hour meter. I moved my hour meter to the tunnel cover since the plug would reach and I don't need to monitor that constantly.

Hope this helps someone else try it.

I have wondered if you could run an alternator tach. Good to know it works! :beerchug:

Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the information and write up. Since the Quietline Series of tractors use the same Stator and V/R, I assuming it would work the same.

How long did shipping from India take?

The tachometer only took a few days to get to Northern OH from India. Much faster than the auction said. I had to email the seller to get the dip switch settings sheet.

Thanks Harvester, I just ordered one to see if it will work on my 982. I'll let you all know how long it takes to get here.

since reading this write up I shall be ordering one as well for my 1650 and any other tractor that uses that alternator. I really appreciate the write up. :beerchug:
