Picked up a 1962 Original

As I near the completion of my 100 (http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=46757) I have been on the lookout for an Original. I was lucky enough to come across this one serial 26791 only a few miles from home. The clutch is apart in a box. The PO took it apart and then I guess decided not to complete the project. It is also missing the S/G.
I am excited to dig into this one when I get time. Just something about these old machines that gets to me. Guess I should see a Dr :bigthink: |

Congrats on your "O" :beerchug: |
Yes sir looks good. Only missing a couple pieces not bad. Yeah that thing has got some big ole meats on the back. Congrats!

Thanks guys. Yes I need to do an inventory to see exactly what is missing. Engines turns over freely and feels like there is some compression with a subtle sound out the exhaust so hopefully nothing too bad with that. I will probably pull the head when I get to that to see what is going on for sure.
Yeah the PO, kept the narrow rears and just threw on a set that he had lying around. Good enough for now. |
Congrats on the "O".:beerchug:
I like them myself...:biggrin2: |
Zippy just went through about 1/2 your thread on your O facelift. Definitely my inspiration. Gonna be referencing that as I go I am sure. What you guys didn't see is my seat needs some attention and I am hoping I can do something similar to what you did.

Waiting on paint to dry on the 100 so I started to look at the Original. Decided to pull the head, probably a mistake, but it is done. All bolts came out fine except the one near the exhaust. The good news is it is about 3/8 proud of the block. Better news is piston and valves all operate as expected.
Looking for suggestion on getting this out. I can't get two nuts on so that approach won't work. Should I weld a nut on it? I heated it a bit and squirted it with PB blaster for now. |

If you want more pictures of the repair, send me your email, and I'll be glad to send more. |
The same thing happened on my k161 recently...on the same bolt as a matter of fact. I tried welding just a nut with no success, but if you weld a washer to it first, then the nut to the washer, that should work. Good luck!
