Suggestions on new mower

So, I've tried searching, but this is a bit difficult to really search for. I have a 2182 with a 60" haban at my northern property. Went through the rear end last winter, love it. Starts up great, water cooled, awesome machine. Now I'm looking for something for home, which is less than .5 acre. Something small, 38-42" deck, and only for mowing. I see a bunch of the 1040 series, but they seem more like a disposable tractors at the big box store. Any suggestions on a smaller model for just mowing? Would probably want a bagger. I know it's going to be air cooled, but what motors are lasting the longest? Thanks!

682, 782, 1710, 1711, 1810, 1811, 1812, 1862, 1864.... there are a few others I'd consider, but those are the top.

Thank you! That gives me a good start to research models.

Don't over look the 1210, 1211, 1440, 1641.

Something like the size of your yard, a reliable and time proven IH Cadet with 36" deck would be just fine too. They are built very good, and are NOT a garden tractor, even the Briggs engines seemed to be outstanding! If you ever get the chance to view one, just look at how much stronger the Peerless trans axle is compared to the bran new bottom-end Craftsman ride-on mowers.

My Cadet 111 preforms so good, the cut is level and clean. I have no doubts that the Cadets can and will cut lawn as good as the gt's. I'm almost tempted to put mine away as it runs so good, and flog on a Crapsman, lol!

Don't know about a bagger though.

IF (and that's a might big IF) you could find a GREAT 1315 or 1320, those were pretty darn good small mowers. I see them for sale every blue moon, but they are mostly used up. The only reason I mention them is that (around here anyway) that's the size machine folks ran baggers on. Can't argue with the ones listed, may I add a 582 or 582 Special to the list. I think finding a bagger machine will be the hard part. :bigthink: Do you REALLY want/need a bagger?

I recently picked up a very nice hydro drive 1620 with 46" cut for my Mother. Briggs twin 16 has plenty of power.

But everyone seems to have a good notion as the garden tractors will come by easier, and are heavy duty in comparison to the Cadets. Though, IH did make a few attachments for the Cadets, one being a snow plow!

Heck, my friend just picked up an unbelievable nice condition Simplicity 7112 for 150$ for the sake of garden tractors!

What he said. Just my 2 cents 1440, 1641, 1863 and 1864. Some of the 2000 series stuff is also good for just cutting grass, just stay away from the AGS stuff.:beerchug:

AGS stuff? What's that?
